November 2010

Four of us marched with the Veterans for Peace at the Armistice Day event in Boston. The march was followed by a rally with excellent VPF speakers and music by the Leftist Marching Band in front of Faneuil Hall.

A fundraising concert, November 12, featuring Dean Stevens, Dave Dodson, and many others was uplifting and entertaining.

October 2010

Bruce Gagnon spoke October 4 about nuclear proliferation and Raytheon at a meeting cosponsored by MVPP, NSC and Merrimack College.

September 2010

Our table at Bread and Roses Festival was busy, and we had front row seats to watch the antics of the Bread and Puppet troupe.

Susan Nicholson spoke in September about the settlements as she witnessed their effects on Palestinians.

August 2010 To commemorate Hiroshima, August 6, we held a special vigil in Andover. Visitors from Japan made it even more meaningful.

July 2010

We had a table at the Lowell Folk Festival and enjoyed much discussion with festival goers.

June 2010

At our annual meeting in June, MVPP and many of the Iraqi refugees honored Mary Todd.

May 2010

The Budhist monks from the Peace Pagoda in Leverett, stopped here for the vigil at Raytheon and to meet with us. Their walk continued through the North Shore to Boston, on its way to New York for the UN's conference on the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty May 1& 2. http://peaceandjusticenow.org/wordpress/

Veterans For Peace held a Memorial Day commemoration in Boston. A flower was dropped in the harbor for each Massachusetts soldier killed, and for friends and family of refugees. Afterwards some of us joined protests against the Israeli attack that weekend on ships relieving Palestinians.

March 2010

On the seventh anniversary of the invasion of Bagdad, March 19, eleven people stood in the Friday night vigil in front of Andover’s Old Town Hall. Visiting from college, Charlotte added her mother and an Andover classmate to the sad reunion.

February 2010

Howard Zinn on National TV. Many of us crowded into Jim and Mary Todd’s House to view "The People Speak" on the History Channel. Dramatic readings from his history reminded us of the heroism of many. The snacks were great too.

January 2010

Iraq Refugees at Dinner On January 8 St. Anne Episcopal Church in Lowell hosted a wonderful potluck. It was MVPP’s annual potluck, and this year we invited the Iraq refugees who mostly live near downtown Lowell. They and we and the group from the Bedford MA Unitarian church brought lots of great food and conversation. The crowd of at least 150 was too big to hear speakers, but the tables were buzzing.
